PHS production of Suessical nominated for Metro Drama Awards

The Peekskill High School Drama Club spring production of Suessical, a musical exploration of beloved tales by Dr. Seuss, has won two nominations in the 2011 High School Theater Awards, presented by the Helen Hayes Youth Theatre.

Miles Jay Harvey, a fifth grade student at Hillcrest Elementary School, was nominated for his performance in the role of Jo Jo.  And, the team of Kirsten Berger and Nat Chau was nominated for Outstanding Graphic Design, reflected in the eye-catching posters and programs for the show. Nat Chau is a senior and Kirsten Berger is the parent of Gabriel Berger, a Woodside Elementary student who also performed in Suessical.

Katie Schmidt Feder directed and choreographed Suessical in her first year with the Peekskill High School Drama Club; the musical director was Brian Zane.
Competition was strong for 2011, with 40 high schools participating in the Metro Awards representing Westchester County, Rockland County, and Bergen County, New Jersey.

An awards ceremony modeled on the Tony Awards and featuring performances from the top nominated shows will take place on Monday, June 6 at 7:30 p.m. at the Paramount Center for the Arts in Peekskill.
