Arrests in Peekskill, July 27 through Aug. 1, 2011

WEDNESDAY, July 27

11:35 p.m. Heriberto Mercado, 30, of Peekskill was arrested on Broad and Park streets and charged with third-degree criminal impersonation, a Class A misdemeanor. Mercado was charged after giving police a false name during an investigation. It was later learned that Mercado was wanted on an outstanding warrant from Duchess Count. Mercado was released on his own recognizance and is due to appear in Peekskill City Court on Aug. 8. He was turned over to the Duchess County Sheriff’s Office for processing on their warrant. Officer Woodland made the arrest.

THURSDAY, July 28

7:35 p.m. Derrick Franks, 42, of Peekskill and Sean Daley, 22, of Verplanck were arrested on Welcher Avenue and charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a Class D felony. Franks and Daley were charged following a traffic stop in which they were discovered to be in possession of over 500 mg of crack cocaine. Both were held for arraignment in Peekskill City Court without bail. Officer John White made the arrest.

THURSDAY, July 28

10:45 p.m. Richard Casey, 60, of Montrose was arrested at the Peekskill Motor Inn and charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a Class A misdemeanor. Officers responding to a report of a disturbance in a room at the Peekskill Motor Inn found Casey in possession of a small quantity of crack cocaine. Casey was released on his own recognizance and is due to appear in Peekskill City Court on Aug. 4. Officer John White made the arrest.

FRIDAY, July 29

12:25 a.m. Steve Scalf, 20, of Orange Park, Florida was arrested on Nelson Avenue and charged with criminal mischief, a Class A misdemeanor. Scalf was charged after several incidents in which he kicked rocks from the upper level of the Nelson Ave. Parking Garage onto vehicles below causing damage. Scalf was released on his own recognizance and is due to appear in Peekskill City Court on Sept. 1. Officer Nick Franco made the arrest.

MONDAY, Aug. 1

2:40 p.m. Samuel Randolph, 25, and Latena Fitzgerald, 26, both of Peekskill, were arrested at Police Headquarters and charged with endangering the welfare of a minor. Police said Randolph and Fitzgerald were charged after they confronted a 10-year-old female who had gotten into a fight with their daughter at the Kiley Center in Peekskill earlier in the day. Fitzgerald held the 10 year old victim while both ordered their two daughters to assault her. Randolph then threw a chair at the victim after the incident was broken up by staff members. Both Randolph and Fitzgerald were arraigned in Peekskill City Court and released on their own recognizance. Child Protective Services was notified and is assisting in the investigation. Officer Leo Dylewski made the arrest.
