LETTER: Galef an independent voice in Albany

To the editor:

I am voting for Sandy Galef because she is an independent-minded hard working representative who understands her constituents.

Sandy voted against the MTA mobility tax even when others in her party voted for it because she knew how unfair it was to ask for more money before cutting back. Sandy voted against the Assembly spending plan because it called for borrowing to pay the bills, which she does not believe is any way to run a government.

At a time when so much of what happens in Albany is mired corruption, Sandy has always been a stalwart of ethical behavior. She has been outspoken about not accepting member items (legislative pork). When others are running around with big checks trying to shine glory on themselves, Sandy stands firmly on her conviction that this is an unfair system, which corrupts the democratic process.  She continues to work tirelessly to make sure that member items are either eliminated, or only given out if they can be equitably distributed, carefully monitored and scrutinized, and transparent.

Sandy has worked for fairer voting systems to make sure every vote is counted. She regularly asks for her constituent's opinions, because we matter to her. She continues to work to draw fairer district lines, to have open committees discuss legislation, and for a constitutional convention with delegates who are not members of the legislature.

Sandy works hard to understand the issues, weigh the decisions, and act responsibly and independently in good times and in bad. She has not let me down.  In fact, I feel proud to say that not only am I voting to reelect her, but I know that Sandy is someone I can respect and count on, someone who has my best interests in mind. On November 2nd, I will vote for a real advocate for the people, Sandy Galef for the 90th Assembly District.
