Amelia A. Frank, August 20, 2011

 Amelia A. Frank, a resident of Silver Spring, MD, formerly of Peekskill, NY, died on August 20, 2011. Amelia received a BA degree from Barnard College and a MA from Columbia University Teacher's College. Amelia was a mathematics teacher at Drum Hill Junior High School.

During World War II, Amelia was commissioned an Ensign in the United States Naval Reserve and assigned to duty at the Bureau of Aeronautics in Washington, DC. She retired in March of 1969 with the rank of Lt. Commander. Amelia was a life member of the Retired Officers Association, an active member of the Military Order of the World Wars, and while working with the Naval Department, awarded the Meritorious Civilian Service Award; the highest award bestowed upon a civilian.

Amelia did a great deal of volunteer work at St. Ann's Infant & Maternity Home in Hyattsville, MD. She served as a Eucharistic Minister at The National Naval Medical Center. Amelia was the daughter of John and Mary Vogt Abele. Mrs. Frank is predeceased in death by her husband, B. Vernon Frank, and three sisters Marjorie Abele, Carolyn Yagel and Marion Abele. Amelia is survived by a nephew, George C. Yagel, Jr.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 24th from 10 – 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 15661 Norbeck Blvd., Silver Spring, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated immediately following. A Graveside Service and Interment at the Assumption Cemetery, Cortlandt Manor, NY will be held on Thursday, August 25th at 10 a.m. Arrangements by Francis Collins Funeral Home, Silver Spring, MD and Dorsey-Carlone Funeral Home, Peekskill, NY.
