Assemblywoman Sandy Galef is now offering internship positions for high school and college students this fall.

This program, now in its nineteenth year, gives interns the chance to gain hands-on working experience, while serving their community in a unique way.

Interns help with the daily operations in the Assemblywoman’s district office, including such responsibilities as writing letters and emails; assisting with constituent issues; researching legislation; and writing press releases. They also have the chance to work on research projects, which allows them to gain knowledge in a variety of subjects.

These unpaid positions allow students to learn skills that can also be useful in the business world. “The interns are a great help in the office, and it’s a good experience for them,” said Assemblywoman Galef. “While working here, they can use skills they already possess, and they gain new abilities that will be useful all throughout their life.”

“You get to do a lot of actual work, it’s not just filing papers,” said Liz Groombridge, Cold Spring resident attending Masters School. “Working at Assemblywoman Galef’s office was really eye opening,” said Samantha Heyward, Peekskill resident attending Hackley School. “I gained an understanding of how New York State government works, while being able to serve the community.”
