Veterans’ registration day set for Thursday in White Plains

Veterans who want to find out more about the benefits they’re entitled to can go to the County Veterans office on Thursday, Aug. 4 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The event, sponsored by the Westchester County Veterans’ Service Agency, will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 112 E. Post Road, 4th floor, Room 442, White Plains. A representative from the Franklin Delano Roosevelt campus of the VA Hudson Valley Health Care System in Montrose will be there.

These registration days have now been expanded and will be held twice a month (first and third Thursday of each month). Veterans who have not yet registered can get a new identification card, sign up for medical services and arrange for a wellness exam.

Veterans who wish to attend should call the Veterans Service Agency the day of the event at (914) 995-2145. To take advantage of this service, veterans need to bring their DD-214 (discharge or separation papers).

Veterans who have not previously used the VA should visit to establish their eligibility or learn about their appeal rights. Veterans who have used the VA should arrange for a complete physical at least once per year to keep their eligibility current and ensure the facility they prefer to use has them registered as an active patient. The physical, including all lab tests required, will cost no more than $15 and will be free for many enrolled veterans.
