City supports MTA search for railroad station tenant
Officials from the City of Peekskill are drawing attention to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s request for proposals for the Peekskill Train Station.
The MTA is seeking an appropriate tenant for the space, formally occupied by Kelly’s Restaurant. The city hopes a viable user for the space will complement the City’s on-going revitalization efforts at the waterfront.
"The Peekskill Train Station is an iconic, historic cornerstone of the city and one of the most important gateways to Peekskill. In addition to be being a vital commuter and tourist hub, it is situated in the waterfront district next to the residential community of RiverBend and overlooks Riverfront Green Park. We encourage interested parties to respond,” said Mayor Mary F. Foster.
The one-story building contains approximately 7,400 square feet, including the basement, and an outdoor plaza space of 1,630 square feet adjacent to the building. The station building was constructed in 1874 and is currently used daily by 1,400 weekday commuters.
This site, familiar to most Peekskill residents, is an excellent Hudson River waterfront location with easy access to Route 9 and Bear Mountain Parkway. The property overlooks Peekskill’s Riverfront Green Park where annual public events like Peekskill Celebration, the Hudson Valley Irish Fest, Peekskill Celebration Memorial Day Carnival, and Octoberfest, as well as Hudson River Cruises, attract 30,000 people.
